A Rule of Thumb

I’ve come to realize that I’m a ‘rule of thumb’ kind of guy. I like patterns of behavior or set ways of doing things. I’m just that kind of way. I’m also the kind of guy that likes to know why things are the way they are. For instance, a ‘rule of thumb,’ have you ever wondered where that phrase originated? A law was set in place in the 1400’s, in England, that allowing men to beat their wives with a stick no thicker than his thumb. Hence we have ‘the rule of thumb’. I guess I need to change my terminology now, hmmm.

What kind of things to you have in your life, simple or not, that altered, tweaked, or changed … even in your vocabulary?
